Before you get in touch
Two things make the first conversation much shorter. The first is the model number from the plate inside the door frame or behind the lower drawer. The second is a plain description of what the appliance does when you run it, including any code on the display and the point in the cycle where it stops.
Who answers the telephone
Somebody at the shop who works on appliances for a living, rather than an agent in a call center three states away. Tell them the badge on the front, the model number if the plate is reachable, and what the machine actually does when you run it. Those three answers usually settle what goes on the van before it leaves.
The appointment comes with a two hour arrival window rather than an open ended day, and you hear from the technician by telephone or text before they set off.
What a visit runs to
Between $150 and $450 for a typical repair, part and labor together. Nothing appears on the invoice that you did not approve at the table first, and there is no travel charge anywhere inside the ZIP codes named on the service area pages.
When it will not wait
Some problems should not sit in a booking queue. A refrigerator that has climbed past 40 degrees, water spreading across a floor, a burning smell from a running dryer, or a breaker that trips every time an appliance starts: telephone instead of booking online and say so as soon as you get through, and the call is moved forward in the day.
Gas is the one exception to all of that. If you can smell it, leave the building and ring the gas utility first. We come afterward, once the line has been made safe, and there is no charge for the call you had to cancel.
