Privacy Policy

Johnnie's Appliances ("we", "us") runs this website and the repair business behind it. This page is here so that anyone who books a visit or simply reads a page can see exactly what we end up knowing about them, why we keep it and for how long, and what they are entitled to ask us to do about it.

1. Information you give us on purpose

Almost everything we hold arrives because somebody typed it or said it. Booking an appointment, telephoning the shop or sending a message through the site gives us a name, the address the appliance is at, a telephone number, an email address and an account of the machine: usually the make, the model number from the rating plate, and a description of the behavior.

If you pay by card at the end of the visit, the card is read by our payment provider. We see that a payment succeeded and for how much. We never see or store the full card number.

2. Information the website records by itself

Like any web server, ours writes a line to a log each time a page is requested: an IP address, the browser and device, the page that referred you and the time. Those lines are what tell us that a page is broken or that nobody ever reads it. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from them.

The appointment form on our Schedule Service page is operated by an outside scheduling provider and displayed inside our page. What you type into that form goes to the provider so that the booking can be created, which means their privacy practices govern it as well as ours.

3. What all of it is used for

  • Booking, carrying out and following up an appliance repair.
  • Reaching you about a booked visit: the arrival window, the technician name, a part on order.
  • Invoicing, taking payment and recording the warranty on the work.
  • Answering questions and dealing with warranty claims.
  • Seeing, at the level of totals rather than individuals, which pages and which services are used.
  • Meeting the record keeping that tax, insurance and consumer law require of a business like ours.

4. Telephone and text messages

A mobile number you give us may be used to call or text you about the appointment itself: confirming it, telling you the technician is on the way, letting you know a part has arrived. Message and data rates may apply. If you would rather not receive anything beyond what a booking requires, reply STOP or say so to the shop, and we will still need one working way to reach you about a visit already in the diary.

5. Who else it reaches

We do not sell personal information and we do not trade it. It goes to:

  • Suppliers doing a job for us: the scheduling provider, the payment processor, a parts supplier who needs a delivery address, and the services we send email and text through.
  • The technicians on our own payroll, who cannot arrive or work without the address and the details of the machine.
  • A public authority, where the law obliges us to disclose something.
  • A buyer of the business, if it is ever sold, on the same terms set out on this page.

6. Cookies

The site sets a small number of cookies, for essential functionality and for basic visitor statistics. Blocking or deleting them in your browser does not stop the site working. One or two conveniences simply stop being remembered.

7. How long we keep things

A service record, meaning the appliance, the parts fitted to it and the warranty dates, has to survive for as long as the warranty could be claimed and as long as tax and insurance rules require. In practice that means several years. Anything held purely so that we can contact you about offers comes off the list the moment you ask.

8. Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect what we hold. No system of transmission or storage anywhere is perfectly secure, and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise.

9. Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and ask to stop receiving marketing. Residents of some states have further rights under state law, and we apply them to everyone who asks rather than checking an address first. Write to service@johnnieappliancepros.com or call (562) 349-1180 and we will deal with it within a reasonable time.

10. Children

Everything here is aimed at householders, and we do not knowingly gather personal information about anybody under the age of 13.

11. Links to other sites

We link to manufacturer pages and occasionally to other sites. We do not control them and their privacy practices are their own.

12. Changes, and how to reach us

This page is revised from time to time and the date at the top is the date of the current version. Any question about it: call (562) 349-1180 or write to service@johnnieappliancepros.com.
