The order of a oven and range visit has been the same here since 1979, and it is worth stating plainly because not every shop works this way. The appliance is tested first. Only once the technician has taken live readings and read whatever the machine has stored about itself does anybody name a part, and only then is a price given. The igniter is almost certainly still glowing, which is why this one gets read wrong so often. A hot surface igniter has to draw enough current to open the safety valve, and it loses that ability long before it stops looking bright. The only honest test is a clamp meter on the igniter circuit while the oven calls for heat. Brightness proves nothing at all.
Three things produce that, and they are easy to separate. The convection fan or its motor may have stopped moving air. The oven sensor may have drifted, in which case the cavity is not the temperature the panel claims. Or a tired hinge is holding the door a few millimeters open along one edge. We measure at rack height with our own probe rather than trusting the display.
Spilled liquid or steam has bridged the spark electrode, so the module keeps firing into a path it should not have. Cleaning the electrode and drying it thoroughly settles the great majority. When the clicking returns within a few days, the ceramic insulator around the electrode has cracked and the part has to be changed.
On a radiant top the candidates are the element, the infinite switch behind the knob, and the control board on touch models. On an older coil range the terminal block, where the coil plugs into the cooktop, is nearly always the answer, because that joint carries the full current and burns. It is one of the cheapest parts on the appliance.
Either a thermal limit has opened, the lock motor has jammed partway, or the board never saw the cavity return to a safe temperature and is holding the door on purpose. Book it and leave it alone. Levering that mechanism bends the latch, and a bent latch never seals the door properly again.
The electronics under the glass shed their heat through fans, and those fans breathe through a vent that is easy to obstruct. Protection trips well before the coil is at any risk, which means an induction top cutting out is usually telling you about airflow or about the generator temperature sensor rather than about an expensive board.

If the offset will not hold the correction, the sensor has drifted out of tolerance and it is an inexpensive part. Stop cooking, turn the appliance off at the wall, open a window, and telephone the gas utility if the smell is anything more than momentary. We come after they have made the line safe.
